Prince & The New Power Generation – Diamonds & Pearls
The title track of Prince & The N.P.G.’s 1991 album is a beautiful ballad with soul, rock and R&B all wrapped up in it. Prince was the King of being able to make all genre’s of music become his OWN genre.
“Diamonds & Pearls” is a love song, where the narrator is trying to woo his object of desire, with anything at his disposal. The Great Rosie Gaines singing back up and with Prince, at time, really fills out this song.
While there were other big hits released from this album, “Cream” (#1), “Gett Off (#21), “Money Don’t Matter 2 Night (#23), it was “Diamonds & Pearls” that was the second biggest hit, peaking at #3 on the Hot 100!
