Doucette – Mama Let Him Play
Jerry Doucette is a Canadian guitarist, singer/songwriter who got his first guitar when he was only 6 years old.
Growing up in Montreal and moving to Toronto as an adult, he played in some local bands that were popular but didn’t have staying pwer.
Eventually, he decided to create his own band and name it after himself – Doucette.
The fall of 1977, Doucette released it’s first single and title of the album, “Mama Let Him Play”. It sold over 100,000 copies, certifying it Platinum in his home country. The song did bleed into U.S. Pop and FM Rock radio, helping it to reach the Hot 100,peaking at #72, but spending 8 weeks on the chart.
The song was a regional hit on Rock radio formats. I remember playing it when I was in the Quad Cities on a rock station. It was requested nearly non-stop in the 90s.
