You may have noticed a slight change to the Beer Blog! It’s no longer a weekly. I plan to bring it back as a bi-weekly blog with craft beer info and reviews.

I am back to drinking some beer. I really haven’t wanted one in quite some time. Just no desire to enjoy one. I am a member of Beer Box now and have been still getting shipments. It’s a subscription like many other monthly craft beer memberships. I like this one because of it’s variety and fun extras. They add stickers and a handful of beer coasters and each shipment includes two packages of original Beer Nuts brand peanuts! I have a fridge FULL of craft beers that need drinking. Maybe I should have a get-together? A “BYOB but drink some of mine too!” shindig….

In the Cards – Pollyanna Brewing Company

Pollyanna Brewing Co. in Lemont, IL has quite a selection of brews. This one came in my Beer Box.

It’s a 16oz. can that pours a hazy yellow, like when you make canned chicken noodle soup. The nose is citrusy and hop. As a New England Pale Ale, I didn’t expect it to be so hop forward. The taste rides the fence of a low IBU IPA. Definitely Citra and probably Mosaic because of the slightly dank floral quality. Now, as I said it’s close to an IPA, but it has nearly no dryness and only a light, lemony bitterness. I suggest drinking it as cold as possible, either right from a cold can or maybe a frosted glass. I was drinking it while I was catalogging (look at me, making up words!) records into a database. I started to enjoy it less as it warmed and ended up dumping the last quarter of the glass. It just doesn’t hold up well other than nice and cold.

With the amount of different brews they feature, I’m looking forward to trying others. With this one, I can tell the brewers are imaginative and experimental which I believe makes great brewers.

If you’re into bar/restaurant service, now is an excellent time to get back to it! As things begin to reopen and especially open up to larger capacity due to many more people vaccinated, these places NEED you! If you can think of a bar or restaurant or brewery with a pub, there’s a better than good chance they are hiring. The Brass Tap in Cedar Falls, for instance, is looking for cooks and servers and it’s my understanding that it’s that way everywhere! Need a job and love working the bar/restaurant biz? Reach out to these places or check their websites and Facebook pages! You’ll probably be able to apply right there!
