Happy Halloween! All you ghosts and goblins get an extra hour of trick or treating as we “fall back” this weekend.  For today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 we go back to 1977 for the Talking Heads with “Psycho Killer”!

From the band’s debut album “Talking Heads : 77”, they released “Psycho Killer” as a single around Thanksgiving of that year which coincided with the Son of Sam killings that had happened in New York the previous year.  There was no connection to the song, but it’s eerie in it’s timing. David Byrne said when he wrote the song he imagined Alice Cooper doing a Randy Newman type ballad and went on to say that the bad guys are always more interesting than the good guys.  It was the only song from the album to hit the Hot 100 reaching #92.

The official video for the song wasn’t released until last year in celebration of the 50th anniversary of their first performance of the song in 1975.  Happy Halloween!  It’s the Talking Heads with “Psycho Killer” today’s Forgotten 45.
