At the risk of sounding like Cliff Clavin, a little known fact, the legendary sitcom “Cheers” debuted on this date in 1982. So for today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 we have a tune that was on the charts in the Fall of ’82 from Kenny Loggins & Steve Perry it’s “Don’t Fight It”.
Kenny said the song was “an experiment in pushing my limits to include rock”. What better way to do that then teaming up with Journey front man Steve Perry and add some guitar from Pat Benatar’s hubby Neil Giraldo. The song appears on Kenny’s album “High Adventure” and it went top 20 reaching #17 on the charts and was also nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group.
“Cheers” ending up running 11 seasons, but was nearly cancelled in it’s first season of ’82-’83 ranking 74th out of 77 shows. Fortunately the comedy of Sam & Diane, Cliffy, Norm, and more ended up being one of the most beloved comedies of all-time.
Celebrating the 44th anniversary of “Cheers” with a tune from 1982, it’s Kenny Loggins & Steve Perry with “Don’t Fight It” it’s today’s Forgotten 45.
