On September 28th, 1976, Stevie Wonder released his classic album “Songs in the Key of Life” so for today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 here’s a track from that LP, it’s Stevie with “As”.
“Songs in the Key of Life” was released as a double album and it debuted at #1 on the album chart, becoming only the 3rd album at the time to do so. The first two singles from the album also went to #1 as “I Wish” and “Sir Duke” both topped the charts. It was the best selling album of his career, certified diamond, and went on to win Album of the Year at the 19th Grammy Awards.
The final single release from the project was “As”, a song that just made the top 40 reaching #36. The song was later covered by artists like George Michael and Mary J. Blige. Celebrating 50 years of “Songs in the Key of Life” it’s “As” by Stevie Wonder, today’s Forgotten 45.
