On August 10th, 1979 Michael Jackson released his album “Off the Wall”, so in celebration of it’s 47th anniversary, today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 is the title track “Off the Wall”.
The world was introduced to Michael when he was only 6 years old performing with his brothers in the Jackson 5, but it wasn’t until he released his 5th solo album in 1979 that his career exploded and he became one of the best selling artists of all-time.
Michael wanted to create his own sound, so he hired Quincy Jones to produce the record and enlisted help from Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney, David Foster, and more to create an album that became the first to deliver 4 top ten songs, including the #1 songs “Don’t Stop Til You Get Enough” and “Rock With You”, and the top ten songs “She’s Out of My Life” and “Off the Wall” a song that peaked at #10.
With a mix of disco, pop, funk, R&B, and even soft rock, the album started his incredible run to become the King of Pop as “Thriller” was released in November of 1982. It’s Michael Jackson with “Off the Wall” it’s today’s Forgotten 45.
