The classic movie “Animal House” starring John Belushi debuted in theaters on July 28th, 1978, so that sent me to the charts for that week and I found today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 from Walter Egan with “Magnet and Steel”.
The story of the Delta House at Faber College received mixed reviews at the time, but Time Magazine and Roger Ebert both called the movie one of the years best. The exploits of Bluto, Boon, Otter and their battles with Douglas C. Neidermeyer and Dean Wormer became a classic, making over $114 million dollars at the box office and helped launch the movie careers of Karen Allen and Kevin Bacon.
Meanwhile in the Summer of ’78 Walter Egan with help from friends Lindsay Buckingham and Stevie Nicks took his song “Magnet and Steel” into the top ten reaching #8 on the charts. The song has also been featured in movies like “Boogie Nights” and “Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo”!
