It’s another day of triple digit heat indexes, so I’m thinking “Cold” tunes on the Forgotten 45 at 3:45. Here’s another one from 1989, it’s Tone Loc with “Funky Cold Medina”.
Released in March of ’89, the song used samples from classics like “Hot Blooded”, “I Can’t Get No Satisfaction”, “All Right Now”, and “You Ain’t Seen Nothin’ Yet” to become only the 2nd rap single to be certified platinum. Tone Loc also had the first with “Wild Thing”.
The song tells the tale of the beverage that works as an aphrodisiac which leads to a “Love Connection”! The origin of “cold medina” was first credited to Flava Flav and later adopted by the Beastie Boys who called a fuzzy navel a “cold medina”. Tone Loc took his version to #3 on the charts.
Stay cold my friends with Tone Loc and “Funky Cold Medina” it’s today’s Forgotten 45!
