The disco group best known for their hits “Macho Man” and “YMCA” reached the height of their fame in the late 70’s with “In The Navy”. The U.S. Navy actually reached out to the group to see about using the song for recruitment, they were serious enough to offer a San Diego naval base, but in the end decided not use the video or the song.
The song was a major hit reaching #1 in Canada, Japan, and The Netherlands. In America “In the Navy” made it all the way to #3 on this date in 1979.
