Every Saturday night from 9 to midnight on 105.7 KOKZ, Nina Blackwood hosts Absolutely 80’s! Today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 is a song you can hear on the show this weekend, from Genesis it’s “Abacab”.
That was the name of their 11th studio album released in September of 1981 as Genesis continued their shift from their progressive roots to more pop based sounds. It worked as “Abacab” was the first Genesis album to reach the top 10 in America, selling two million copies on the strength of tunes like “No Reply at All”, “Man on the Corner”, and “Abacab”.
The title comes from the song structure according to Mike Rutherford where at one time it spelled ABACAB, but the final version was ACACACUCUBUBUGA! Thank God for editing, Abacab went top ten in England and reached #26 in the U.S.
