Steve Perry celebrated his 77th birthday yesterday, so for today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 we go back to January of 1983 for Journey with “Ask the Lonely”.
The legendary band out of San Francisco is one of the best selling groups of all-time with sales of over 100 million albums. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017, Journey had their biggest albums in the 80’s with “Escape” which sold over 10 million copies and “Frontiers” released in February of ’83 which sold 6 million.
“Ask the Lonely” was originally supposed to be a part of the Frontiers album, but instead got dropped. The song was featured in the soundtrack for “Two of a Kind”, a movie that starred Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta that flopped at the box office. “Ask the Lonely” was only released as a single in Japan, but it did reach #3 on the rock charts.
Happy belated birthday to Steve Perry! It’s Journey with “Ask the Lonely” today’s Forgotten 45.
