On this Veterans Day we thank all of the men and women who have served our nation, in peacetime and in conflict.  For today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45, we go back to 1982 for Billy Joel and “Goodnight Saigon”.

Observed on November 11th each year, Veterans Day commemorates the service of all U.S. veterans who make up 6% of America’s population numbering nearly 18 million people.  The majority of living veterans served in the Gulf War as well as Vietnam.

Billy Joel’s song “Goodnight Saigon” focuses on the Vietnam War and appears on his 1982 “The Nylon Curtain” and has been regularly performed live in his shows over the years.  While the song did not make the top 40, the song did chart at #56 on the Hot 100.
