Happy Fathers Day! As we celebrate dad this weekend, how about a song that was written in tribute of his father. From Dan Fogelberg, today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 is “Leader of the Band”.
The song appears on Dan’s album “The Innocent Age” released in 1981. Written for his dad Lawrence who was a musician, educator, and an actual band leader. Dan has often said if he could’ve written only one song, it would’ve been this one for how much it meant to his father. The song was a #9 hit becoming his 4th and final top 10 hit.
Lawrence Fogelberg passed away in 1982, but in his final year he did many national interviews about his son and the song which meant a lot to the family. In tribute to his dad, check out this live performance of “The Leader of the Band” by Dan Fogelberg, it’s today’s Forgotten 45.
