Today we wish a very happy 80th birthday to Pete Townshend! For the Monday Forgotten 45 at 3:45 we go back to 1980 for his only solo top 10 hit “Let My Love Open the Door”.
Born on May 19th, 1945 in Chiswick, England, Pete is best known as the co-founder, guitarist, second vocalist, and leader of The Who. While best known as a great guitar player, Pete was a self-taught musician who can also play the keyboards, violin, banjo, bass guitar, and even the drums!
In June of 1980 he released his solo album “Empty Glass” and “Let My Love Open the Door” went to #9 on the charts in the U.S. and it almost didn’t make the album, his manager hated the song, Pete called it “a little ditty”, but history will show it was a hit!
Happy 80th Birthday to Pete Townshend! I found a 1993 live performance of “Let My Love Open the Door” it’s today’s Forgotten 45.
