Billy Joel is celebrating his 76th birthday so for today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 we go back 1990 for his hit “I Go To Extremes”.
The song was his 30th top 40 hit in a Hall of Fame career, appearing on his 11th studio album “Storm Front” the song was originally considered a song about a manic-depressive, the song was actually written as an apology to his then wife Christie Brinkley, which is top of mind since she’s been in the news for talking about Billy’s drinking problems when they were married.
The song went to #6 in 1990 and he ended up having one more top 10 hit in 1993 with “The River of Dreams”. Even at 76 years old, Billy is still out playing live shows this summer with Rod Stewart, Stevie Nicks, and Sting.
Happy Birthday Billy Joel, check out the video to “I Go To Extremes” it’s today’s Forgotten 45.
