105.7 KOKZ is your home for classic American Top 40 shows every weekend.  This Sunday morning at 8 join Casey Kasem for the top songs from May 8th, 1982, it’s where I found today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 from the Charlie Daniels Band with “Still in Saigon”.

It was 50 years ago today that the Vietnam War officially ended on April 30th, 1975 with the fall of Saigon following the largest helicopter evacuation in history removed the U.S. Marines from the embassy.

7 years later the Charlie Daniels Band recorded “Still in Saigon”, a song written by Dan Daley about the plight of a Vietnam veteran.  It joined several other 80’s songs (Born in the USA by Bruce Springsteen, Goodnight Saigon by Billy Joel, and 19 by Paul Hardcastle) bringing attention to these veterans.

The song was a #2 rock hit and a #22 pop hit for CDB from their album “Windows”.  I wasn’t able to find a performance of the song, but I did find a custom made You Tube video of Charlie Daniels Band and “Still in Saigon” it’s today’s Forgotten 45.
