It’s the 40th Anniversary of the debut of “New” Coke in 1985 so for today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 how about a song from the charts this week in ’85?  From Teena Marie it’s “Lovergirl”.

You remember the outrage caused by the New Coke, the company had been losing market share to Pepsi and other drinks.  So they conducted some blind taste tests that showed that consumers liked the more sweet taste of Pepsi.  Coke then changed their formula and went to market…and it bombed spectacularly!   Just 79 days after launch, Coca-Cola announced they were going back to the original recipe.

On the charts this week in 1985 was Teena Marie who delivered her biggest and only top 10 hit with “Lovergirl” the song reached #4 on the charts.  Sadly she passed away at the far too young age of 54 back in 2010.

Grab a Coke and a smile and enjoy today’s Forgotten 45 from Teena Marie it’s “Lovergirl”.
