Today is Earth Day, a global event dedicated to raising awareness about environmental issues and promoting action to protect our planet. With that in mind, today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 is from Joni Mitchell with “Big Yellow Taxi”.
The song was written by Joni in 1970 and it was a hit in her native Canada, Australia, and England, but only reached #67 in the U.S. A live version of the song in 1974 did make the top 40 here. Written on her first trip to Hawaii, she recalled looking out her hotel window at the beautiful green mountains in the distance and then looking down and seeing parking lots as far as she could see.
April 22nd was chosen as Earth Day in 1970 so it only makes sense to play a song from ’70, Joni Mitchell with “Big Yellow Taxi” is today’s Forgotten 45.
