You can thank the Iowa Lottery for today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45! They’ve been promoting their new Pac Man scratch off game, so how about some “Pac Man Fever” from Buckner & Garcia!
Jerry Buckner and Gary Garcia were working on TV jingles and doing studio work in the Atlanta area in the early 80’s and were out eating lunch when they saw a bunch of people swarming around a Pac Man game. They had never heard of it, but when they got their turn on the machines, they played for 2 straight hours. They had so much fun, they decided to record a song about it.
Their manager tried to get airplay at different radio stations but no one would bite….until one morning it got played on an Atlanta station and rest is history. The song eventually sold over 2.5 million copies and became one of the great one-hit wonders of all-time, reaching #9 on the charts this date in 1982.
Get out your quarters and enjoy Buckner & Garcia with “Pac Man Fever” it’s today’s Forgotten 45.
