Welcome to November! For the Friday Forgotten 45 at 3:45, we go back to November 1st, 1986 for Cameo with “Word Up”.
The then 14 member band was formed in 1974 under the name New York City Players changed their name to Cameo which was inspired by a brand of cigarettes they saw when they were playing dates in Canada.
Cameo had several hits on the R&B charts, but their biggest hit by far was “Word Up”! The song was and continues to be a big party hit that went all the way to #6 on the Hot 100 and received massive worldwide airplay and exposure on MTV.
A fun 80’s song to send you into the weekend, check out “Word Up” by Cameo, it’s today’s Forgotten 45!
