This Saturday on Classic American Top 40 the 70’s you get a bonus hour of tunes as Casey Kasem features the top songs from August 4th, 1979! It’s where I found today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 from Robert John with “Sad Eyes”.
Robert John was first known for his 1973 hit “The Lion Sleeps Tonight”, he released “Sad Eyes” in April of ’79 and the song knocked “My Sharona” by the Knack out of the top spot after six weeks at #1.
Done in his signature falsetto singing style, the song was likely helped by the anti-disco backlash that started getting stronger that year. Back when singers looked like one of your junior high teachers, check out Robert John with “Sad Eyes” today’s Forgotten 45!
