Born on this date in 1947 as David Albert Cook, the English singer, songwriter, and actor known as David Essex recorded 19 top 40 hits in the UK but is best known for “Rock On” a song that went to #5 on the charts in ’73 becoming his only hit in the U.S.
The song has been recorded by several different acts over the years including Def Leppard, and Michael Damian took his remake of “Rock On” to #1 in 1989.
