Welcome to the Tuesday that feels like a Monday edition of the Forgotten 45 at 3:45! Today we celebrate the 56th birthday of Kylie Minogue by going back to 1988 for her remake of “The Loco-Motion”.
The singer from Australia recorded her version of the song in 1987 and after a performance of the song at an Aussie football game, signed a deal with Mushroom Records to release it as a single. The song went to #1 in Australia and stayed there for 7 weeks, which got the attention of a new label in London. They re-worked the song, freshened the production, and it truly became a worldwide smash.
In 1988 the song was used in the movie “Arthur 2: On the Rocks” with Dudley Moore & Liza Minelli. The movie was a box office flop, but the song went to #3 in the States and it became her biggest hit in America.
Happy Birthday Kylie Minogue, you have today’s Forgotten 45 on 105.7 KOKZ!
