It’s going to be a great weekend in Eastern Iowa and listening to all of the “sun” songs on the Waters Wake-Up Call this morning has me thinking summer.  So for today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45, we go back to 1977 for Meat Loaf’s “You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth (Hot Summer Night)”.

The song was the very first single for Meat Loaf from his classic “Bat Out of Hell” album.  Along with his long-time collaborator Jim Steinman, they had a hard time finding a record company that understood the vision of the music & the theatric nature of the tunes.  In fact the Clive Davis the legendary record mogul passed on the project.

Produced by Todd Rundgren, “Bat Out of Hell” became one of the best-selling albums of all-time, certified 14 times platinum in the U.S.  “You Took the Words…” was originally released in 1977 but didn’t chart, but following the success of “Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad” and “Paradise by the Dashboard Light”, the song was re-released and barely made the Top 40, reaching #39.

The classic style of Meat Loaf with “You Took The Words Right Out of My Mouth (Hot Summer Night)” today’s Forgotten 45!
