This Saturday morning on American Top 40 the 70’s Casey Kasem features the songs from March 20th, 1976, it’s where I found today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 from Eric Carmen with “All By Myself”.

The singer who just recently passed away at the age of 74 was a member of the Raspberries before going solo in 1975.  “All By Myself” was his first hit from his self-titled debut solo album.  The song verse is based on the second movement of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in C Minor, Opus 18.  Now my daughter played viola in high school orchestra, but that’s the extent of my knowledge in this space.

The song went all the way to #2 on the charts, held out of the #1 position by “Love Machine” by the Miracles and “December (1963) Oh What a Night” by the Four Seasons.  Eric went to to record 7 other top 40 hits as a solo artist.

Remember the late Eric Carmen, I found his Midnight Special performance of “All By Myself” today’s Forgotten 45.
