105.7 KOKZ is your home for Classic American Top 40 shows every weekend and this Saturday morning at 9 Casey Kasem features the top songs from March 4th, 1978, it’s where I found today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 from Jay Ferguson with “Thunder Island”.

Born in Burbank, California, Jay started classical piano lessons at age 12, switched to the banjo at 16 and along with his brother Tom, a fiddler, started a bluegrass band called the Oat Hill Stump Straddlers!  He was then part of the group Spirit in the 60’s and Jo Jo Gunne before taking a year and half off from music.

He worked on some music with Joe Walsh and recorded his album “Thunder Island” in 1978 and the title track became his first and only top ten hit.  It’s a song that instantly puts me back on my moped cruising the mean streets of Kalona.  Check out Jay Ferguson with “Thunder Island” today’s Forgotten 45.
