For today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45, we celebrate the birthdate of Andy Gibb, born on this date in 1958, with his 1978 hit “(Our Love) Don’t Throw It Away”.

Of course Andy was the younger brother of Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb of the Bee Gees, who rose to fast fame and fortune in the late 70’s to early 80’s.  In that short time, he recorded 8 Top 20 hits and 3 number one songs and do you remember when he used to host the show Solid Gold?

“(Our Love) Don’t Throw It Away” was originally a Bee Gees song recorded for Saturday Night Fever, but it didn’t make the cut.  Andy’s version become a top ten hit and I chose it today because as I was looking through the archives, I found an appearance of Andy on a George Burns special from ’79 talking about wanting to switch places with George and grow old. Sadly as we know, Andy Gibb died in March of 1988, just 5 days after his 30th birthday.

Check out the video of Andy and George Burns when he was only in his 80’s, and a performance of “(Our Love) Don’t Throw It Away” today’s Forgotten 45.
