Roger Daltrey of the Who is celebrating his 80th birthday today, so in celebration for today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 we go back to 1982 for The Who with “Athena”.
The song appears on their 10th album it’s hard and was written by Pete Townshend who at the time was trying to hit on American actress Theresa Russell. They had just finished seeing Pink Floyd’s The Wall and as Pete tells the story, he was a little drunk and Theresa was having none of it!
The song ended up being the band’s final top 40 hit reaching #26. Sharing vocals between Pete & Roger, it’s the Who with “Athena” today’s Forgotten 45.
