Sunday morning at 8 105.7 KOKZ brings you American Top 40 shows from the 80’s. This weekend Casey features the top songs as they were on January 26th, 1980, it’s where I found today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 from Prince with “I Wanna Be Your Lover”.
Prince Rogers Nelson from Minneapolis is considered one of the greatest musicians of his generation, delivering over 30 top 40 hits with his fame peaking with the brilliant “Purple Rain” album.
“I Wanna Be Your Lover” was the first pop hit for Prince and it went all the way to #11 on the charts in January of ’80. I found his appearance on Dick Clark’s American Bandstand where he performed the song. To say it was an awkward interview would be understating it. In fact Dick said that of over 10,000 musician interviews he’d ever done, this might have been his most difficult.
