Bob Seger – Shakedown

Originally, Harold Faltermeyer wrote the music for this with Keith Forsey and the lyrics were written by Bob Seger in 1986. The song was given to Seger’s fellow Detroiter, Glenn Frey to record for the Beverly Hills Cop 2 soundtrack, since his song, “The Heat Is On” did so well from the first movie. But Frey didn’t like the lyrics much and he ended up with laryngitis anyway, so it was given to Seger to record.

“Shakedown” topped the Hot 100 for for weeks in 1987 and was nominated for a Golden Globe as well as a Grammy Award. The song lost to “(I’ve Had) The Time Of My Life” from the Dirty Dancing soundtrack.

When Glenn Frey heard about the popularity of the song and it’s accolades, he called Seger to congratulate him and said,

“At least we kept the money in Michigan!”
