Shai – If I Ever Fall In Love
As big as this song was in 1992, I would have thought it would have become a classic, played on nostalgia stations or classic soul/R&B radio.
The members of Shai met at college and formed an acapella soul/do wop style group.
Their debut album featured the title track as it’s first single. “If I Ever Fall In Love” was recorded both acapella and produced, with music background. Both hit the radio, but it was the acapella version that got the calls and non-stop requests.
It raced up the Hot 100, peaking at #2, and holding there for 8 weeks! That meant that it held the record for the second-most weeks at number two in the chart’s history at the time, behind Foreigner’s “Waiting for a Girl Like You” Eventually, other artists beat that but Shai’s single is now in joint ninth place with a number of more recent songs.
