Today is Bret Michaels’ 58th birthday!

Poison – Stand

After C.C. DeVille and Bret had a major falling out due to C.C.’s drug use, the band enlisted guitar virtuoso Ritchie Kotzen to replace him.

‘Native Tongue’, Poison’s fourth studio album from 1993, was more mature in theme. Darker with less party atmosphere that was prevalent in the first two records.

The first single released was “Stand”, a song written by Kotzen, before he joined the group. A gospel choir was brought in to give it more of that southern rock feel, with the choir giving it more authenticity.

It peaked at #50 on the Hot 100, and then it was found that Kotzen was having a romantic affair with drummer, Rikki Rocket’s fiance’. Kotzen was booted after the tour. Not cool, Ritchie. Not cool.
