Here’s To Beer: A Weekly Beer Blog Part 93!

In medieval Europe, the average person drank 220-250 litres of beer a year! As it had undergone fermentation, it was cleaner and safer to drink than the water.

Great Divide WOOD WERKS OLD FASHIONED

From Great Divide Brewing in Denver, CO, comes this interesting “old fashioned” Belgian Style Ale. Not “old fashioned” in the way someone’s values are or something new that looks antique, but in the cocktail of the same name!

Pours a dark bronze with a nice thick head that dissipates quickly. The nose is barrel aged brandy. A light fruitiness appears with some cherry essence. Boozy flavor with an ABV of 8.8%. Malt blend gives the flavor profile enhanced with cherry and some bitter orange peel. Usually, with a Belgian ale, especially when orange peel is present, having a slice of orange added to the glass enhances the citrus flavor but with this one, it hinders it. I had half a glass of the beer as is and the other with a slice of orange and the one with the slice definitely doesn’t do it any favors. I suggest drinking this without any additions.

Stuck inside and bored? Maybe do this and possibly win some free beer from Firetrucker Brewery in Ankeny!
