The more things change, the more they stay the same.  The year was 1985 and Sting released his first solo debut album The Dream of the Blue Turtles fresh off the huge success of the Police Synchronicity album.  The US and Russia were still in the Cold War with stories of nuclear power and the threat of war.  Today we hear constant stories of Russia threatening to invade Ukraine.

Sting released today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 “Russians” as a single in late 1985 as his commentary on the world.  The song was inspired by a friend who had one of the earlies satellite dishes and he and Sting would stay up and watch Russian TV late at night.

The song reached #16 on the AT40 charts and can be heard again this Sunday on American Top 40 from 1986.
