I have a confession to make, I had the “hots” for Linda Ronstadt. That wasn’t an exclusive club I’m quite sure. On this day in 1975, Linda scored her first and only #1 song with today’s Forgotten 45, “You’re No Good”.
She finally broke through with her her album Heart Like a Wheel establishing her as one of the biggest stars of the ’70s. It took a while: none of her first four solo albums charted higher than #45, no single higher than #25. By the end of 1978, Ronstadt had solidified her role as one of rock and pop’s most successful solo female acts, and became one of the first women to sell out concerts in arenas and stadiums hosting tens of thousands of fans.
Linda, who shares a birthday with me (July 15th), is now retired and suffering from Parkinson’s. A superstar on every level, check out her performance on the Midnight Special.
