We go back to the early 80’s for today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 from Peoria, Illinois native Dan Fogelberg and his top ten hit “Leader of the Band”. The song was a tribute to his father Lawrence, a musician and leader of the band.
Dan says in this video “if he could’ve written only one song in my life, it would’ve been Leader of the Band because of what it meant to my father and to me.”
Dan’s dad was alive when the song became a hit and became somewhat a celebrity being interviewed about the song by several media outlets.
You can hear “Leader of the Band” again this Sunday morning on American Top 40 the 80’s as Casey counts them down from February 14th, 1982.
