Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel split in 1970 to do different things. Paul continued songwriting and recording while Art did several unique things… He worked as a teacher in Connecticut, a draftsman in New York and a math tutor in LA, before working on a solo album himself, coincidentally, at the same time as Simon.

Paul had written a song for Art, telling him that it was a “nasty” song that would help give Art something other than the smooth, sweet songs he usually recorded.

After hearing it, they both decided to collaborate again and record it together. In fact, Paul Simon hosted the second only episode on Saturday Night Live in 1975, and surprised everyone by bringing Art in during the musical segments. they performed “The Boxer”, “Scarborough Fair” and the new song, “My Little Town”.

After the surprise collaboration on SNL, “My Little Town” raced up the charts and became Simon & Garfunkel’s eighth Top 10 hit, peaking at #9 in 1975.
