This Saturday morning from 9 to noon, Casey Kasem has another edition of American Top 40 the 70’s! This weekend he’ll feature the top tunes from September 22nd, 1973 and today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 is on the countdown, from B.W. Stevenson it’s “My Maria”.
Louis Charles Stevenson aka Buckwheat aka B.W. Stevenson was from Dallas where he went to high school with Michael Martin Murphey, Ray Wylie Hubbard, and Larry Groce of “Junk Food Junkie” fame. In 1973 he recorded “My Maria” and it became his only top 40 reaching #9 on the charts. It was given new life in 1996 when Brooks & Dunn’s version of the song went #1 on the country charts. Sadly B.W. Stevenson died at the far too young age of 38 years old after developing an infection during a heart valve operation.
It’s a tune that puts me in the back seat of my old man’s Pontiac riding to grandpa’s farm! It’s B.W. Stevenson with “My Maria” it’s today’s Forgotten 45.
