Waters was talking about 45’s this morning and today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 was one I owned back in the day.  From John Sebastian it’s “Welcome Back”.

The song was chosen because Gabe Kaplan is 81 years old today. He had dreams of being a professional baseball player but instead ended up being a professional poker player with over a million dollars of winnings in his career.  But of course he’s best known for being the star of “Welcome Back Kotter”.  The show aired on ABC for 5 seasons from 1975 to 1979 as America was entertained by the Sweathogs at Buchanan High in New York.  Who can forget Vinny Barbarino, Arnold Horshack, Freddie Boom Boom Washington, and Juan Epstein!

The theme song for the show was a huge hit as well, rocketing to #1 on the charts in just 5 weeks back in 1976.  Celebrating Gabe’s birthday and the 50th year of singing “Welcome Back”!  Today’s Forgotten 45 is sponsored by Honey Creek Furniture in Manchester, Eastern Iowa’s fastest growing La-Z-Boy store.  You’ll find them at honeycreekfurniture.com.
