For the Friday Forgotten 45 at 3:45 we go to the charts on October 24th, 1987 for a fun 80’s tune from Squeeze called “Hourglass”.
The British band had three top 10 hits in England between 1979 and 1981 but are best known in the States for songs like “Tempted” and “Black Coffee in Bed” songs that didn’t make the top 40 but did get airplay on the rock charts.
In the Fall of ’87 Squeeze released their album “Babylon and On” which delivered their biggest American hit “Hourglass” and the band says they attribute the success of the song to their video which received heavy airplay on MTV. Chris Difford says the song doesn’t mean much musically and Glenn Tilbrook called the lyrics nonsense but it worked.
Have a great weekend! Enjoy Squeeze with “Hourglass” today’s Forgotten 45 sponsored by Honey Creek Furniture in Manchester, Eastern Iowa’s fastest growing La-Z-Boy store. You’ll find them at honeycreekfurniture.com.
