On Monday, Rick Derringer passed away in Florida at the age of 77.  For today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 we play a song that earned him his only Grammy Award, from Weird Al Yankovic it’s “Eat It”.

Rick Derringer had quite a career, starting in 1965 with his band the McCoy’s and the #1 hit “Hang On Sloopy”.  In 1973 he had his only top 40 hit with “Rock & Roll Hoochie Koo” a song that went to #23 on the charts.

He played on a wide variety of projects including with his friend Todd Rundgren, Steely Dan, and on classics like “Total Eclipse of the Heart” by Bonnie Tyler.  And he produced 6 albums for Weird Al Yankovic in the 80’s, including a Grammy Award for his work on “Eat It”.

Paying tribute to a great musician with quite the career, produced by Rick Derringer and performed by Weird Al, it’s “Eat It” today’s Forgotten 45.
