Bob Seger is celebrating his 80th birthday today! For today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45, we go back to May of 1986 for “Like a Rock”.
The singer out of Detroit had an incredible career that spanned six decades! A member of both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame, Bob and his Silver Bullet Band sold over 75 million copies and entertained audiences around the world with their terrific live shows.
“Like a Rock” was inspired by the end of a relationship and Bob told the New York Times that it confirmed the “best years of your life are your late teens when you have no commitment and no career.” The song was a #1 rock hit and reached #12 on the charts in ’86 but is likely best known for use in Chevy truck ads from 1991 to 2004.
