It’s hard to believe it’s already been nine years since Prince passed away on this date in 2016. For today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 we go back to 1985 for “Pop Life”.
Prince Rogers Nelson from the Twin Cities went on to become one of the most influential musicians of all-time. In fact in 1984 at the height of the “Purple Rain” mania he became the first artist to have a #1 album, song, AND film all at the same time!
“Pop Life” appears on his album “Around the World in a Day” the song reached #7 on the charts. With Prince playing piano, synth, and bass along with help from Sheila E on drums, and Wendy and Lisa on backing vocals, the song became his 8th top ten hit in two years.
Sadly on April 21st, 2016, Prince died from an accidental overdose at Paisley Park, his home in the Twin Cities. Today we remember Prince with a live performance of “Pop Life” from 2002 in Las Vegas, it’s today’s Forgotten 45.
