This Sunday on American Top 40 the 80’s Casey Kasem features the top songs from April 19th, 1980, and this is one of the songs you’ll hear on the show, today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 from Michael Jackson with “Off the Wall”.
Of course Michael was well known throughout the 70’s with the Jackson 5 and even had some solo hits, but it was his 1979 “Off the Wall” album that really boosted his popularity and paved the way for his legendary “Thriller” album.
“Off the Wall” was his first record on Epic and the first to be produced by Quincy Jones, the album delivered the #1 hit “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough” and “Rock With You” and “Off the Wall” became the third top 10 hit from the project as the title track went to #10. All told, “Off the Wall” sold over 20 million copies world-wide.
Released in November of 1979 and on the charts this week in 1980 it’s Michael Jackson live in Japan in 1987 with “Off the Wall” it’s today’s Forgotten 45.
