The singer from Pittsburgh Originally a #9 hit in 1963 for The Drifters, George Benson recorded five top 40 hits between 1976 and 1981 including “This Masquerade” and “Give Me the Night”. “On Broadway” was first a hit for The Drifters in 1963. George’s version in 1978 won a Grammy Award for Best R&B Vocal Performance and went to #7 on the Hot 100.
