Michael McDonald celebrated his 73rd birthday yesterday, so for today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45, we go back to the Fall of 1976 for the Doobie Brothers with “It Keeps You Runnin”.
The third single from their album “Takin’ It To the Streets” the song has the signature Michael McDonald vocals and jazzy R&B influence along with his stellar keyboard work. The song was a #37 hit for the Doobie Brothers and was also covered by Carly Simon in 1976 as well.
“It Keeps You Runnin” was featured in the classic film “Forrest Gump” and on the soundtrack for the 1978 movie “FM”. The Doobies will be doing some summer shows in England and Ireland before returning to the states for shows in August and September.
