Throwback Thursday Forgotten 45: Dionne Warwick & Friends

By Jeff Winfield Jan 30, 2025 | 3:43 PM

This Sunday from 8 to noon on American Top 40 the 80’s, Casey Kasem counts down the top songs from February 1st, 1986 and a superstar who is coming to Eastern Iowa has today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45, it’s Dionne Warwick (and friends!) with “That’s What Friends Are For”.

The song was written by the legendary duo of Burt Bacharach & Carol Bayer Sager and was originally recorded by The Stylistics in 1975 and covered by Rod Stewart in 1982.  But it was the version by Dionne, Elton John, Gladys Knight, and Stevie Wonder that became the monster hit, reaching #1 and raising over 3 million dollars for AIDS research.

Dionne Warwick is coming to Meskwaki Veterans Convention Center on February 15th and we’ll be giving you chances to win tickets to see her next week.  In the meantime here’s the video for “That’s What Friends Are For” today’s Forgotten 45.
