For today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 we go all the way back to January 9th, 1977. Why? Because that was the last time the Minnesota Vikings were in the Super Bowl! The #1 song on that date is from Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis Jr. with “You Can’t Have to Be a Star (To Be in My Show)”
Since I had to look at Waters in his Viking jersey today, I knew it had been a long time since the Vikes had made the Super Bowl, but I had forgotten that it has been 48 years! The Vikings lost to the Oakland Raiders 32-14 in Super Bowl XI.
The top ten songs that date included Elton John, Rod Stewart, Leo Sayer, and at the top of the charts were former 5th Dimension members and married couple Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis Jr. with “You Don’t Have to Be a Star”, a song that earned them a Grammy Award for best R & B performance by a duo or group.
Good luck to all the Viking fans tonight as they battle the L.A. Rams in the playoffs. You can check out a very 70’s looking awkward performance by Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis Jr, it’s today’s Forgotten 45.
