It’s hard to believe it’s been 44 years since John Lennon was shot and killed outside of his New York apartment on December 8th, 1980. For today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45, it’s the final single by John released in his lifetime, “(Just Like) Starting Over”.
As a performer, writer, or co-writer, John Lennon has a hand in 25 #1 songs on the Billboard Hot 100. His 1980 album “Double Fantasy” was his first new music in over 5 years. Upon release in the Fall of ’80 the album stalled on the charts, but that fateful night in New York changed the course of the album as “Starting Over” rocketed to #1 in tribute and the album went on to win the Grammy for Album of the Year in 1981.
